Dr. Hum was born in Peterborough, Ontario. He attended Western University, London, Ontario receiving an Honours Bachelor degree in Biology and Genetics. Thereafter, he attended a four-year program at Georgetown University School of Dentistry, Washington, D.C. where he received a Doctorate in Dental Surgery in 1990.
Following his time in Washington, Dr. Hum returned to Canada to accept a 1-year residency with the University of Toronto School of Dentistry. This Internship Program included experience with advanced dental procedures with several hospitals and clinics in the Toronto area.
In 1991, Dr. Hum furthered his education at the Virginia Commonwealth University, Medical College of Virginia, School of Dentistry. It was here that he earned a Specialty in Prosthodontics by completing a comprehensive program in complex dental situations.
Dr. Hum is also a prosthodontic consultant at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO). The CHEO dental facility has a team of dental specialists which provides care for children with unique needs such as cleft lip, cleft palate, and other developmental dental disorders.
Dr. Hum chose to make Ottawa his home in 1997 and opened his practice on Catherine Street, serving as a Certified Prosthodontist. In 2007, the office was relocated nearby to 30 Chamberlain Avenue to better serve our patients.
On the personal note, his family is the accomplishment that brings Dr. Hum the most joy. He and his wife Tammy have two lovely daughters. Spare time is spent with family and friends or enjoying travel and golf.
Having the privilege of serving others in a specialty Prosthodontic practice has been a life-long dream. Dr. Hum's passion for this work and personable nature is quickly recognized by every individual that enters the practice. Dr. Hum sincerely looks forward to meeting with you to assist with your dental needs.
Dr. Hum was also awarded the United Way Community Builder Award in 2002 for service to Ottawa and the surrounding area.

Dr. Maiko Sakai received her Doctoral degree in Dental Medicine from Harvard University. She graduated top five in her class and earned several awards for her achievements, including the Dr. Norman B. Nesbett Award for clinical excellence.
Dr. Sakai then continued her dental education at the University of Illinois at Chicago by completing a 3-year specialty training in prosthodontics, earning both Specialist Certification and a Master’s degree in Oral Science. Her Master’s degree involved research on the optical properties of zirconia, all-ceramic and dental cement materials. During her prosthodontic training, she served as the chief resident and was involved in pre-doctoral education. She has extensive training in full mouth rehabilitation, involving complex and cosmetic restorations.
Upon completion of her training, Dr. Sakai returned to the Harvard School of Dental Medicine as a full-time faculty member. She worked in the Department of Biomaterial Science and Restorative Dentistry for several years prior to relocating to Ottawa. While maintaining her clinical practice as a staff Prosthodontist at the faculty practice, she facilitated an encouraging and warm learning environment at the school as a course director, clinical instructor, and mentor. Her passion and achievements in teaching the next generation of dentists were recognized and awarded with the prestigious Outstanding Teaching Faculty Awards for two consecutive years. Dr. Sakai has lectured extensively and has published multiple articles on translational and clinical research in colour science of dental restorative materials and implant education. She also currently serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry.
Dr. Maiko Sakai is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and a Board Certified Specialist in Prosthodontics. She is also an active member of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, the Canadian Dental Association, the Ontario Dental Association, and the Ottawa Dental Society.
In her spare time, Dr. Sakai enjoys spending time with her husband, Andrew, and their two children.
